City Nature Challenge: Dragonflies and Damselflies

  • Saturday, April 28, 2018
  • 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Explore these amazing aerial acrobats by catching and photographing dragonflies and damselflies with our resident dragonfly expert!  This program will give you a great chance to see some odonates (the scientific name for the dragonflies and damselflies!) up close and learn how to identify some of the common local species.

This is a drop-in program — no need to pre-register!  Meet in the Outdoor Classroom.

Dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes.  Bring a camera (your phone or any other camera you have, or plan to borrow one from us) and a water bottle.  Come with iNaturalist pre-loaded on your phone if you are planning to use the smartphone app to make your observations.

This program is part of the City Nature Challenge: Triangle Area 2018.  The City Nature Challenge is an international competition between urban areas to see who can document the most species on iNaturalist (an online wildlife observation platform) from April 27-30, 2018.  Help the Triangle Area show off how amazing our biodiversity and citizen scientists are by photographing species you see and uploading them to iNaturalist!
