Dance, Dance, Evolution: Museum hosts virtual dance contest

Bird-of-paradise: photo by Tim LamanThe bizarre courtship dances of birds-of-paradise aren’t mere flights of fancy. They help determine which individual birds get to pass their genes (and dance moves) onto the next generation. If you were a bird-of-paradise, what would YOUR mating dance look like? Would you favor an existing dance, or step out in your own unique style? Or perhaps you’re a female bird-of-paradise out to turn the male-led traditional dancing scheme on its head!

We’re asking you to create your own birds-of-paradise dancing video. The Museum will award prizes for one adult, one teen (13-18) and one youth (12 and under) video, plus the video that gets the most likes on our Facebook account will win Fan Favorite. Judging criteria include dancing, costuming, story and overall quality of the video. Winners will each receive: a family Museum membership, a $100 Museum Store gift certificate and local business prizes.
